Human Flow, a film directed by Ai Weiwei -OPENING FILM

Over 65 million people around the world have been forced from their homes to escape famine, climate change and war in the greatest human displacement since World War II. Human Flow, an epic film journey led by the internationally renowned artist Ai Weiwei, gives a powerful visual expression to this massive human migration. The documentary elucidates both the staggering scale of the refugee crisis and its profoundly personal human impact.
Captured over the course of an eventful year in 23 countries, the film follows a chain of urgent human stories that stretches across the globe in countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, France, Greece, Germany, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, and Turkey. Human Flow is a witness to its subjects and their desperate search for safety, shelter and justice: from teeming refugee camps to perilous ocean crossings to barbed-wire borders; from dislocation and disillusionment to courage, endurance and adaptation; from the haunting lure of lives left behind to the unknown potential of the future. Human Flow comes at a crucial time when tolerance, compassion and trust are needed more than ever. This visceral work of cinema is a testament to the unassailable human spirit and poses one of the questions that will define this century: Will our global society emerge from fear, isolation, and self-interest and choose a path of openness, freedom, and respect for humanity?
When there is nowhere to go, nowhere is home"

FIPRESCI Grand Prix 2018 goes to "Phantom Thread" directed by Paul Thomas Anderson

$

Paul Thomas Anderson director എന്നതിനുള്ള ചിത്രംPaul Thomas Anderson has become the first filmmaker to win the FIPRESCI Grand Prix three times, as Phantom Thread was chosen best film of the past year by the members of the International Federation of Film Critics, after "Magnolia" in 2000 and "There Will Be Blood" in 2008. The award will be presented on the 21st of September, during the opening ceremony of the San Sebastián International Film Festival.

Phantom Thread എന്നതിനുള്ള ചിത്രം"Phantom Thread" was selected in a poll in which 473 film critics and journalists from around the world took part. The other three finalists, after a nomination phase open to all feature-length films, premièred internationally since July 2017, were Lucrecia Martel's "Zama", Martin McDonagh's "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri", and Pawel Pawlikowski's "Zimna Wojna" (Cold War).

The FIPRESCI Grand Prix exists since 1999, and is the federation’s most representative acknowledgment, as it is not chosen by a jury (like the International Critics Prize awarded to a film from a festival program), but is elected by all members, and all feature-length productions of the previous twelve months are eligible. In the past, this special award has been bestowed upon Michael Haneke, Aki Kaurismäki, Cristian Mungiu, Richard Linklater, Jean-Luc Godard, Pedro Almodóvar, George Miller, Jafar Panahi and Maren Ade, among others.
POST SCRIPT :

"Set in postwar London, amid the insular world of 50s haute couture, Phantom Thread is an oedipal gothic romance, a tale of lost mothers and broken spells, with secret messages (“never cursed”) sewn into its gorgeously cinematic cloth. A swooning score, crisp visuals and paper-cut-sharp performances combine to conjure a poisoned rose of a movie, inviting you to prick your finger on its thorns and succumb to its weird, dark magic."(The Guardian)

21 films vie for Golden Lion for Best Film, Silver Lion - Grand Jury Prize, Silver Lion - Award for Best Director, Coppa Volpi
for Best Actress,Coppa Volpi for Best Actor,Award for Best Screenplay, Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress .
“At Eternity’s Gate” is one of the 21 films competing for the Golden Lion. The movie is directed by Julian Schnabel, who made “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” . Willem Dafoe looks uncannily like a Vincent Van Gogh self-portrait, as he plays the artist in the biopic that premiered at the Venice Film Festival . This  film about Vincent Van Gogh claims that he was murdered rather than having shot himself.
Double Vies directed by Oliver Assayas after film Personal Shopper around cellphones and texting, returns to this theme in his highly intelligent new examination of what this technology means to our lives. Doubles vies is both a delicious comedy of manners and an enquiry focused on a group of middle-aged, middle-class French men and women, and how they are affected by the hyper connectivity of today. Olivier Assayas was born in Paris and made his feature directorial debut with Désordre (86). His films L’Enfant de l’hiver (89), Une Nouvelle Vie (93), L’Eau froide (94), Irma Vep (96), Cinéma de notre temps: Hou Hsiao-hsien (97), Fin août, début septembre (98), Les Destinées sentimentales (00), Clean (04), L’Heured’été (08), Après mai (12), Clouds of Sils Maria (14), and Personal Shopper (16) all screened at the Festival. Doubles vies (18) is his latest film.
Awards will be declared on September 8th at Lido di Venezia,Italy.
